Thanks to a collaboration between Rachel Guthrie at Southern Maine Community College and Tim Plumer from Adobe, there will be an ACTEM professional development session on Adobe Acrobat, Accessibility, and the PDF on April 30th from 9 to 11 am at SMCC. Snacks will be provided by the SMCC culinary arts program.
Session Description: Adobe Acrobat, Accessibility, and the PDF
The Portable Document Format (PDF), is a great way to share and deliver documents. However, whenever you create an electronic document, it is imperative to consider accessibility and how varying individuals will need to experience the document. Not all PDF is created equal, and you can create a PDF that helps those with different abilities to observe the content. This workshop will show you how. During this this 90-minute session, you will learn:
††††* How to create a PDF that is more accessible from the start
††††* Why a PDF might be less accessible than it could (or should) be
††††* The tools in Acrobat that help you to determine what accessibility issues exist in a PDF
††††* Methods for addressing those issues
††††* What resources
Accessibility isn't just a legal requirement, it's the right thing to do for a broad audience. Tim Plumer, Jr. will present a demonstration for you to help you to create your PDF files the right way from the start.
