ACTEM Strategic Plan

A small group of ACTEM members met in August of 2005 and put together a draft strategic plan to look at the future of ACTEM.  The strategic plan developed centered around three major areas - Communication System, Professional Development and the Organizational Structure.  The goals and action plans developed by this group are listed below.

Communication System

LONG TERM GOAL (3-5 year) Create and maintain viable communication systems using various technologies.

SHORT TERM GOAL (1 year)  Digitize and improve electronic communications.

ACTION STRATEGIES:

1. Digitize and restructure the newsletter posted on the web site.

2. Expand the list serves to better serve members’ interests – with moderators.

3. Examine meeting structure

4. Examine annual conference

5. Examine web master

6. Examine information dissemination

Communication System

LONG TERM GOAL (3-5 year)  Create and maintain viable communication systems using various technologies.

SHORT TERM GOAL (1 year)  Update the ACTEM web site

ACTION STRATEGIES:  Select a web hosting company that can provide following:

Archive historical stuff

Professional development and sign up

Current minutes & newsletter

Teacher of year application

Member info and sign up

Conference registration and brochure

Price sheets

Links to professional organizations

Member sites – needs updating

Post mission, vision, by-laws, constitution

Officer & Board Member Contact Information

List serve sign up and sign off and policy

Professional Development System

LONG TERM GOAL (3-5 year)  Create and implement a sustainable professional development program which meets the needs of the members.

SHORT TERM GOAL (1 year)  Develop a model to deliver on-going professional development to educators across the state.

ACTION STRATEGIES:

1. Investigate policies and procedures regarding

•web based professional development

•leader-led professional development

2. Determine the course of a professional development model.

•Create a chart

•Include investigation of the ‘sustainability’ of TLL model , identify trainers, and develop policy and procedures around ‘TLL model”

3. Revisit the annual conference for improvements

4. Confirm the continuation of professional development scholarships

Organizational Structure

LONG TERM GOAL (3-5 year)  Create an organizational structure that will support the vision.

SHORT TERM GOAL (1 year)  Create a plan for maintaining functions of the current business manager after Betsy retires.

ACTION STRATEGIES:

1. Establish a subcommittee to do the following:

 Identify the job functions of the business manager:

•software sales

•financial management (written financial report at each meeting, end of year financial report, yearly audit)

•conference

•other

2. Consider reorganization of business manager position

3. Create job description for the business manager position

4. Determine compensation package

5. Advertise position & hire

6. Examine financial software systems

7. Establish transition timeline and plan – short and long term

Organizational Structure

LONG TERM GOAL (3-5 year)  Create an organizational structure that will support the vision.

SHORT TERM GOAL (1 year)  Identify organizational staffing needs vis a vis the web communications, professional development, financial and organizational needs of the organization.

ACTION STRATEGIES

1. Examine roles of ACTEM officers, committees and chairs, to determine if we have the human resources needed

2. Create a subcommittee to examine procedures manual.
